Hot June day and rising fish on the Hodder

I recently managed to grab a short visit to the river and found some good risers willing to take the dry fly.

Targeting wild trout of course at this time of year, yet the fabulous grayling like to show up whenever they take a fancy to our flies.  They have no concept of man-made open season's and regulations, so can roll up at any time they like...

Temperatures were high and water levels low but both trout and grayling attacked my dry duns and spiders with an attitude...

The wonderful silver lady of the stream, seen here under the dappled woodland light.

All fish were returned carefully to the stream.

Sadly, I did not get any shots of the trout but the grayling shots were satisfactory.

Wild place, wild fish - perfect!

Successful, but well-chewed, dries on the day

You can keep your cheapo holidays abroad and crowded beaches if that turns you on ...

I'll stay at home thanks ... !

Fast thin runs that hold quality game fish

A few blue winged olives came onto the water and this nice fish took a suitable imitation.

Deeper, more mysterious pools always hold a certain fascination

Another fit fish goes back...

And another good fighter ...

Heaven on earth... it's here!

More here...
